Erling Haaland maintained Manchester City’s perfect start to the Premier League season with the only goal in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Etihad on Saturday.
Haaland’s first-half header secured City’s third consecutive league win under new manager Enzo Maresca, although the hosts were forced to survive a late Coventry fightback.
The Norwegian striker struck midway through the first half for his third goal in as many games this season, heading home a cross from Antoine Semenyo after Enzo Fernandez played the forward in down the right.
Iliman Ndiaye also made his City debut as Maresca fielded an attacking line-up featuring Haaland, Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and the Senegal international.
Despite their strong attacking options, City struggled to put Coventry away and needed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma to preserve their lead.
