AUSTIN - The Texas Longhorns season is finally here. No. 5 Texas kicks off its season on Saturday against the Texas State Bobcats at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, hoping to get off to a hot start. The Longhorns are surrounded by massive expectations once again in 2026, thanks in large part to the return of stars like Arch Manning, Ryan Wingo, Colin Simmons and Trevor Goosby. Fans will also see the Longhorns' debuts of a bevy of new names from the transfer portal, such as Cam Coleman, Rasheem Biles, Hollywood Smothers, Raleek Brown, Melvin Siani, Bo Mascoe, Justin Cryer and more. On Paper, the Longhorns have one of the most talented rosters in all of college football, and are one of the favorites to not just win the SEC and make the College Football Playoff, but win the national championship outright. Of course, there is still plenty of football left to be played before championships can enter the discussion, particularly due to the incredibly difficult schedule the Longhorns face from now until the end of November. That journey starts in Week 1 against an extremely talented Texas State Bobcats football team, that is led by star quarterback Brad Jackson, receiver Beau Sparks, and offensive mastermind head coach GJ Kinne. The Bobcats offense will be a tremendous test for the Longhorns to start their season with. Last season, the dual-threat Jackson led the Sun Belt Conference in completion percentage at 71.3 percent, throwing for 3,224 yards and 21 touchdowns, while also rushing for 744 yards and 17 more scores. Sparks was Jackson's favorite target, leading the Sun Belt in receptions and yards in 2025 with 84 catches for 1200 yards and 10 scores. The Longhorns defense should be up for the challenge, however, led by new defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, and their superstar edge rusher in Simmons. Arch Manning then hit Cam Coleman in the corner of the endzone three plays later for the first Longhorns touchdown of the season. change of possessionTexas State began their next possession with a couple of quick passes to Beau Sparks, and a pass intereference on the Longhorns. Texas State then turned it over on downs at the Longhorns 42-yard line. change of possessionTexas started off the drive with a big play to Raleek Brown to move the chains. Manning then hit Ryan Wingo on the sideline on fourth down to keep the drive alive. A couple of plays later, Wingo took the ball on a jet sweep for a touchdown. 14-0 Texas. change of possession2nd QuarterTexas State moved the ball on their next drive, getting all the way inside the Longhorns 10 yard line to end the first quarter. Texas stood strong in the red zone, however, forcing a Texas State field goal. The attempt was no good, however, leaving the score at 14-0 Texas. change of possessionOn their next drive, the Longhorns marched the ball down the field through a dominant ground game and efficient passing from Manning. The drive was capped off with a 13-yard run by Raleek Brown for a touchdown. change of possessionTexas State started the next drive with a big play to get into Texas territory. But not long after that, the Bobcats fumbled, and Graceson Littleton scooped it up and took it 60-yards the other way for a touchdown. 28-0 Texas. change of possessionTexas State moved the ball down the field on their next drive off the back of a long run from Brad Jackson and got in the end zone for the first time in the game. 28-7 Longhorns. change of possessionManning and the Longhorns had a bit of a sloppy start to their first drive, getting into a 3rd and 15. Manning then hit Wingo down the sideline for a huge gain to put Texas into Bobcat territory. Manning first hit Coleman on a 45-yard pass down the sideline to get into Texas State territory, and then followed it a couple of plays later with a score in the end zone. 35-7 Texas. change of possessionTexas forced its second Texas Stae fumble of the day, with Maraad Watson knocking it loose from Brad Jackson, and Colin Simmons falling on the ball to give it right back to the Horns. change of possessionTexas took advantage of the turnover, getting the ball into Bobcat territory quickly. A few plays later, Texas was in the end zone on Manning's fourth touchdown pass of the day - this time to Hollywood Smothers. 42-7 Longhorns. change of possessionThe next drive ended quickly for Texas State with a Rasheem Biles interception. It was the third turnover forced by the Longhorns on the day. change of possessionKJ Lacey entered the game for Arch Manning and led a touchdown drive. The drive was capped off by a 21-yard run from Raleek Brown, his second of the day, to put Texas up 49-7. change of possession4th QuarterTexas State got into scoring position on its next drive, but missed a field goal, leaving the Texas lead at 49-7 in the fourth quarter. change of possessionTexas moved the ball into Texas State territory but was stopped, with the Bobcats forcing a field goal.
