Oliver Glasner says VAR should not have intervened to rule out a potentially match-winning goal from Neco Williams in Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.The Wales international thought he had put the home side in front at the City Ground, when he battled his way between Tottenham defenders Micky van de Ven and Sandro Tonali, to force the ball over the line from close range, after Morgan Gibbs-White had lifted a shot towards goal.Referee Craig Pawson initially awarded the goal on the pitch, only for VAR Peter Bankes to intervene and rule that Williams had handled the ball.“VAR checked the referee’s call of goal to Nottingham Forest – and determined that Williams handled the ball immediately before scoring and recommended that the goal was disallowed,” a statement from the Premier League’s matchday centre read.Glasner felt that numerous replays failed to definitively show that Williams had handled the ball and believed that the goal should not have been chalked off, arguing the match officials were effectively “guessing” over the decision.“The referee allowed the goal and I have watched it back — because in the game I could not see anything, nobody could — and I have seen five or six different angles. To be fair, from one angle, you can guess that the ball touched the arm, because the shirt moves a little bit,” Glasner told a press conference.“But it is not clear. Is it the ball? Tonali was on the line… VAR cannot intervene when he is guessing.
