New Delhi: Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL) on Saturday said the vials of its rabies vaccine Abhayrab found substandard and potentially spurious were not manufactured by the company. The statement comes after India's drug regulator deemed the batch substandard, following a government laboratory finding that the field sample failed a potency test and was classified as "not of standard quality".However, IIL, one of India's leading vaccine manufacturers, said in a statement that the particular batch was tested and released by the government's Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL), Kasauli, and that the released quantity of 83,370 vials was supplied only through the company's authorised distribution channel."No market complaint has been received in respect of the batch Number KE25012," the statement said. The company said every batch of Abhayrab is released for sale only after independent testing and batch release certification by the CDL."Vaccine administered at a hospital, clinic, government facility or licensed pharmacy reaches the patient through that released and authorised supply chain and is not affected by this matter," it said. The company said 17 differences were recorded between the seized vials and the retention samples of the same batch held at the CDL. During an enforcement action, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation drew vaccine samples from an unlicensed residential premises in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi.
