Tadej Pogačar has extended his contract at UAE Team Emirates-XRG to 2032 but will not race for the rest of the 2026 season.The five-time Tour de France winner will miss the chance to defend his world championship title, his team confirmed on Saturday, following the crash which ended his Vuelta a Espana.Pogačar, 27, sustained a concussion, a displaced left collarbone fracture and a stable fracture to his C7 vertebra in his neck after crashing while leading the Spanish grand tour last week. The Slovenian underwent successful clavicle surgery in Barcelona on September 1 and has since been discharged from hospital.Pogačar has won the last two world championship titles but will now not get the chance to make it three at this year’s event in Montreal, Canada on September 27. He will also be absent from the Road European Championship race, which he won last year.“Following his crash at La Vuelta, Tadej will not return to racing this season as he focuses fully on his recovery and rehabilitation,” a UAE Team Emirates statement read.“Right now, the most important thing is to recover properly and give my body the time it needs,” Pogacar said in the announcement.The team leader, however, has followed fellow UAE Team Emirates rider Isaac Del Toro in extending his stay with the World Tour side.
