These four major retailers are expected to be open over the holiday weekend, with everything from essentials to home-improvement supplies

Labor Day weekend is one of the last big chances to enjoy the unofficial end of summer, but it can also be a convenient time to knock out a few errands. Whether you need last-minute back-to-school supplies, groceries for a cookout or something for a home project, plenty of major retailers keep their doors open through the holiday.
That can be especially helpful in 2026, when Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7. While some businesses close for the federal holiday, many of the country's biggest retailers remain open, often with holiday sales and seasonal promotions, according to a roundup from Reader’s Digest. Of course, holiday hours can vary by location, so shoppers should still check with their local store before heading out.
