A large group of protesters wearing black and covering their faces with balaclavas shut down roads and blocked access to the Port of Dover this morning.
Demonstrators obstructed a road in three locations, stopping all traffic from reaching the UK’s busiest port, which handles more than 15,000 passenger vehicles a day in summer.
Videos on social media show masked men dressed in black standing in a line across roads, sometimes chanting and shouting. They did not carry any flags or signs.
It has not been confirmed by police what the protest is about, but demonstrators were seen chanting “stop the boats”. John Baker, a Reform UK councillor at Kent County Council, also said he believed it was a “stop the boats” protest.
An associate of right-wing activist Tommy Robinson, Daniel Thomas, known as Danny Tommo, has appeared to claim credit for the demonstration.
