Russia and Ukraine agreed on Saturday to pause strikes on each other's capitals during visits from President Trump's White House special envoy Steve Witkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner in the latest effort to end the war between the two countries.Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. A White House official told CBS News Saturday evening that the "two sides discussed substantive plans for next steps, which will be announced in the coming weeks," adding that Witkoff and Kushner "look forward to equally productive meetings tomorrow in Ukraine."Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters that Putin held "extremely frank" talks with Witkoff and Kushner on how to end the Ukraine war, with the Americans proposing a "number of ideas.""The American representatives prepared thoroughly for this trip," Ushakov said. "They did not only express their traditional interest in bringing the hostilities to a quick end, they put forward a number of ideas on possible routes to a settlement," he said."The conversation was constructive, extremely frank and trustful," said Ushakov, adding that the Russian side "expressed confidence in achieving the set goals."
