As spring gets underway in September, the warmer weather may raise concerns about snakes emerging from hibernation and finding their way into homes and other spaces.
However, snake specialist Nick Evans says there is little reason for alarm, as these reptiles generally pose no danger unless they feel threatened.
Evans, a Durban-based specialist in venomous snakes, warned that people should not attack snakes, especially venomous black mambas and Mozambique spitting cobras, because they would react dangerously to save their lives.
He said that since the beginning of the season, he has been called to several scenes where snakes have been spotted.
