New York (EFE).- The trial of Lindsay Clancy, the woman accused of killing her three young children in Massachusetts in 2023, ended in a mistrial on Friday after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.
The case is now in the hands of the prosecution and the defense, who must decide whether to face a new trial, negotiate a plea deal, or end the process.
Judge William Sullivan, of the Plymouth Superior Court in Massachusetts, declared a mistrial after the 12-person jury reported for the third time in seven days that they could not reach a unanimous verdict.
The decision followed an emergency appeal filed by the defense to the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, arguing that a juror was not following the judge’s instructions and was preventing a unanimous verdict.
The petition was rejected.
