Kim Klement NeitzelSept. 4, 2026 Updated PHILADELPHIA — Aidan Miller, the Philadelphia Phillies’ top prospect who has been sidelined all season by a back injury, will return to the field on Saturday when he plays five innings at shortstop for Low-A Clearwater.It will be Miller’s first game action in almost a year; he last played Sept. 18, 2025, capping a breakout season in the minors that had the Phillies thinking about Miller’s possible big-league debut sometime in 2026.But the back soreness, later described by the club as discogenic pain and facet inflammation in the lumbar spine, prevented Miller from doing much at all during spring training. It lingered into the season. At times, the 22-year-old infielder was close to appearing in a game only to suffer a setback.Now, at the very least, Miller will have some at-bats to salvage a lost season. If all goes well in September, the Phillies intend to send Miller to the Arizona Fall League in October for further playing time, according to multiple team sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss plans that have not been announced.Miller, who ranked No. 6 on The Athletic’s preseason top-100 prospects list, had an .825 OPS across Double A and Triple A last season. He could return to Triple-A Lehigh Valley later in September when the rest of the affiliated minor-league seasons end.
