A near disaster on the first play because of a bothced snap. Then, ISU opts for a timeout less than one minute into the third quarter.HalftimeIndiana State quarterback Elijah Owens has had a really strong day, throwing for 97 yards and rushing for 35 in the first half.Penalties have been a problem. The Boilermakers have six for 45 yards in the first half.Purdue's offense has been productive between the 20s, but the red zone continues to be an area of concern. Yes, the Boilermakers are 3-of-3, but they've settled for two field goals and their only touchdown was penalty-aided. Ryan Browne was 16-of-22 for 172 yards and a touchdown in the first half. They'd like another score before halftime, especially since Indiana State gets the ball to start the third quarter.2:00 — Purdue's defense comes up with a huge stop to force Indiana State into a punting situation. Defensive lineman Ian Jeffries with a huge sack on Elijah Owens. The Sycamores will punt after the two-minute timeout. Boilers still lead 13-6.3:07— Ryan Browne is sacked by a swarm of Sycamores, led by Robert Beasley. That was Purdue's first drive that didn't manifest into points. Indiana State starts with the football at their own 40.5:09 — Purdue's defense holds on third down but Indiana State is still able to get points on the board. Sebastian Lopez drills a 47-yard field goal to make the score 13-6. 7:07 — Last season, Purdue's defense surrendered several explosive plays through the air. The Boilers just gave up another one on third down to allow ISU's offense to remain on the field. Elijah Owens completed a 41-yard pass to Tyler Nansel for the big gain.9:16 — Purdue really shot itself in the foot on that drive. Another really positive drive that ended with a field goal because of penalties. A holding call wiped out a 63-yard touchdown run by Ijeboi and a false start from the Indiana State 2-yard line forced the Boilers into a passing situation.9:16 — Out of the timeout, Purdue lines up in the Wildcat formation but is called for a false start. Ryan Browne then threw a pass to Xavier Townsend in the back of the end zone, but the receiver couldn't haul it in. Boilers settle for another Lozano field goal and it's 13-3.9:25 — Purdue is knocking on the door of another touchdown. The Boilermakers have the ball on the Indiana State 2-yard line. The Boilers have moved the ball well between the 20s, but they're struggling deep in Indiana State territory. They won each of their first two games in 2025, but failed to secure a victory after that. This is an opportunity for Purdue to build some early confidence before welcoming Wake Forest to town.Purdue is also hoping to remain undefeated against Indiana State. This will be the eighth meeting between the two programs, with the Boilers leading the series 7-0. The Sycamores dropped their season opener to Southeast Missouri in Week 0, 23-21. Indiana State has gone more than a decade without defeating an FBS opponent. The program's last win in that category came in 2014, defeating in-state foe Ball State 27-20. That year, the Sycamores finished with an 8-6 record and earned a spot in the FCS playoffs.
