The Bulgarian government is seeking to resolve the long-running dispute over Sunny Beach by transferring the resort's infrastructure to the municipality and the Water and Sewerage Company, Regional Minister Ivan Shishkov said.

Shishkov argued that the current situation surrounding Sunny Beach AD has continued for years in violation of the law and must be brought to an end through legal means.

“What has been happening for years is absolutely illegal and we believe that it must be put to an end legally. I told the company that we suggest that they be so kind as to transfer what is due to Bulgarian citizens. We cannot and should not give additional money from the pockets of Bulgarian taxpayers,” the minister said.

He stressed that the state does not intend to shut down Sunny Beach AD. The government's main objective, he said, is to ensure that the resort's infrastructure is placed under the management of the institutions legally responsible for it.

According to Shishkov, insufficient efforts have been made over the years to develop Sunny Beach, while the company itself cannot maintain the existing model indefinitely.
