Noah Lyles, the American track star who won the 100-meter gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is ending his season early, one week before the new World Athletics Ultimate Championship.In a social media video Friday, Lyles said he suffered a strain at the U.S. outdoor championships in July that led to other issues and his decision to shut it down ahead of the debut edition of track and field’s new biannual year-end showcase event.“After running at USAs, we found out that I had a small strain, not very serious,” Lyles said, “and the rehab that we were putting together was going extremely well. Unfortunately, because of the strain, it caused some other things to flare up, and it’s made it hard for me to continue practicing.
