Rajasthan High Court Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma on Friday claimed that the allegations by a Supreme Court judge that he had misused his administrative powers were baseless and made out of resentment, Live Law reported.Justice Sharma said that he had full faith in the judicial system and urged all those concerned to wait for the decision of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant before arriving at a conclusion.Last month, Supreme Court Justice Sandeep Mehta, in letters to Kant, accused Sharma of manipulating the listing of cases to favour rich litigants and using his position to appoint persons close to him to administrative posts. Mehta had sought that Sharma be replaced with immediate effect. The Supreme Court collegium on August 31 recommended the appointment of Justice Sanjay K Agrawal as the chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Sharma is due to retire on September 26.The acting chief justice of the High Court, in a statement to the media, said he has explained his position to Kant and refuted the allegations against him with evidence, Bar and Bench reported.“I have full faith in the Indian judicial system,” he was quoted as having written by Bar and Bench. “Once the appropriate time arrives and I receive approval from the CJI, I will personally appear before the media to present my side; until then, I request everyone to remain patient.”Sharma was appointed as a Rajasthan High Court judge in November 2016 and transferred to the Patna High Court in 2022.After Sharma sought to return to Rajasthan on health grounds, the collegium headed by DY Chandrachud, the chief justice at the time, declined his request in March 2023. Sharma was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court instead.In May 2025, a fresh collegium recommended his return to Rajasthan. He later became the acting chief justice of the Rajasthan High Court.The allegationsIn his letters, Mehta wrote that Sharma had held the position of acting chief justice for “more than 10 months”.The Supreme Court judge has also claimed that several judges of the Rajasthan High Court had approached him during his visits to the state and expressed concerns about Sharma’s conduct.He alleged that Sharma had “frequently” threatened fellow judges with “retributive action”, including transfers, while “claiming his closeness” with the chief justice of India.Edited by Tanya Shrivastava.
