The first season premieres this Christmas, with a second already given the green light.‌The official series one synopsis teases: "There is nothing special about Harry Potter - or so his Aunt Petunia tells him. But when a mysterious letter of admission to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrives, it opens the door to a hidden world of magic, friendship and adventure.‌"Yet behind Hogwarts’ enchanted walls lie dark secrets. Harry must find the courage to prove himself against the darkest wizard of all."The HBO series stars Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. While the main trio are played by three relative newcomers to the industry, they will be rubbing shoulders with a plethora of established stars.‌Among them are John Lithgow as the beloved Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, with Nick Frost stepping into the late Robbie Coltrane's shoes as Hagrid. Meanwhile Paapa Essiedu portrays Severus Snape and Janet McTeer takes on fellow professor, Minerva McGonagall.Now three more stars have been announced for the second season, with the news arriving before the first has even aired. They will take on three major roles in the franchise.‌BBC star Lenny Rush will take on the role of house elf Dobby. The actor's past credits include a leading role in sitcom Am I Being Unreasonable? and an upcoming turn in the BBC's Eric Morecambe book adaptation, The Reluctant Vampire, expected later this year.Meanwhile Billy Barratt, who starred in 2025 horror film Bring Her Back, has been cast as Tom Riddle. The character later grows up to become the dark wizard known as Lord Voldemort, portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in the films.Finally Bonnie Hill has been named as Ginny Weasley, sister to main character Ron.
