A woman from Kallakurichi district, who was stranded in Kuwait after allegedly facing abuse while employed as a domestic worker, has safely reached the Indian Embassy. The repatriation process was initiated after videos of the woman seeking help went viral on social media.According to official sources, the woman identified as A. Anitha of Oorangani village near Sankarapuram in the district reportedly went to Kuwait a few months ago for domestic work through an agent. In a video released recently, Anitha alleged she had been subjected to various forms of harassment over the past two months while working in Kuwait. She also claimed she had not been provided food for the past few days.In the video, Anitha appealed for assistance to return to Tamil Nadu.Speaking to The Hindu, Kallakurichi Collector J.E. Padmaja said authorities had verified the woman’s identity and established contact with her family members. Officials contacted her parents and collected the required details, which were subsequently forwarded to the authorities concerned in Chennai, she said.The woman is currently safe at the Indian Embassy in Kuwait. She is expected to be repatriated after completion of documentation and clearance procedures, Ms. Padmaja said.Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police I. Shahnaz said the agent identified as Selvaraj who had sent Anitha to Kuwait for work as domestic help has been arrested. A case has been registered against him under The Emigration Act, 1983.
