One of the reasons that they wanted to go get Myles Garrett beyond the overall impact of a player like him is that they missed the world where offenses could only do so much to them. When Aaron Donald was on the field, the playbook was limited. There were certain things you just couldn’t do when he was on the field. Getting Garrett, they stepped back into a world they were already very familiar with because of the way that Donald shaped the complexion of games. The other part is that in the secondary, not only the quality they added, but also the flexibility they have on the back end is wild. You have so many guys who could theoretically step down and have them play in the nickel. You could play as much dime as you want with this group. Quentin Lake can play there, Trent McDuffie can play there. You just have so many different permutations of what that secondary is going to look like behind that defensive line. It’s a compelling group of defensive players. We can just leave it at that.Dave Helman on what he’s watching the first month of the season: The personnel adds distract from all of the fun little ways that this team is exciting. It’s funny to think what we might be saying about a guy like Josaiah Stewart if Aaron Donald and Myles Garrett weren’t here. And in the same way, when the offense has the reigning MVP, an Offensive Player of the Year caliber receiver in Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Kyren Williams, it’s still easy to forget that there’s 40 percent of the offense that you’ve got to figure out here. Puka, Adams and Kyren accounted for 57 percent of the targets in this offense last year. And even with Blake Corum having an emergent year, Kyren still did 60 percent, 65 percent of the work in the backfield. So what does that look like for the other 40 percent? What does that actually look like?Derrik Klassen on what’s keeping him up at night: You’ve created a scenario where anything but winning the Super Bowl is a disappointment and a failure. The NFL is a pressure cooker to begin with. If anybody’s built for it, I think it is Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford. It’s these guys who have done really high pressure stuff before. But it is a lot.
