Byelections to five vacant wards in local self-government institutions in Thrissur district will be held on September 28, with the model code of conduct having already come into force from September 1. Polling will be held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., while counting of votes is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on September 29.The byelections will be held in the following wards: Thali ward of Wadakkanchery block panchayat; Edathirinjhi ward of Vellangallur block panchayat; Aryampadam ward of Thalikulam grama panchayat; Kurumala Kizhakkumuri ward of Chelakkara grama panchayat and Municipal Office ward of Chalakudy municipality.The election notification and the publication of the election notice were completed on September 3. The last date for filing nominations is September 10, while scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on September 11. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until September 14. The revised electoral rolls were published on August 19.A liquor ban will be enforced within the limits of the wards going to the polls during the 48 hours preceding the close of polling and on the day of counting. Election-related activities will also be conducted with strict adherence to the green protocol, with measures in place to minimise the use of non-biodegradable materials and reduce waste.
