HYDERABADTelangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party leadership was forced to take action against former Minister Konda Surekha because of her objectionable conduct, making it clear that while Congress provided democratic freedom to its leaders, it would be equally strict on matters of discipline.Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Friday, Mr. Goud said that Ms. Surekha had made it clear that she would remain in the Congress and that the party would provide her opportunities to work. He felt that what Ms. Surekha said on Thursday after her dismissal may have been out of anger and anguish, but advised her against making such statements in the future.Mr. Goud said that the party would not tolerate leaders making statements merely to serve their personal interests. The action taken against Ms. Surekha was intended to send a clear message that indiscipline would not be encouraged, he said.He said the Congress had considerable democratic space and allowed leaders to express their views, but that freedom could not be used to cross organisational limits. Any leader who crossed the limits of acceptable conduct would face disciplinary action, regardless of their position in the party.“If anyone in the party has any problem, they can directly approach the PCC president and express their grievances,” he said. Party leaders could also meet the AICC Telangana affairs in-charge or the party high command and place their concerns before them, he said, adding that there were established channels within the Congress to address grievances.
