The management of Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple at Srisailam conducted free mass Varalakshmi Vratams on Friday, marking the fourth Friday of the auspicious Sravana month, as part of its efforts to propagate dharma.The temple management invited Chenchu tribal devotees to participate in the mass ritual. As many as 1,233 Chenchu devotees from various settlements in Nandyal, Prakasam and Palnadu districts performed the Vratam. Another 500 devotees also participated in the ritual.Temple Executive Officer M. Srinivasa Rao, ITDA officials, supervisors and temple staff participated in the programme.The temple authorities provided the required puja materials to the devotees. The Vratam was performed in accordance with scriptural traditions, with a separate kalasa (sacred pot) installed for each participant. All participants were presented with flowers, bangles, a Tulasi plant as Vruksha Prasadam and a copy of the Srisaila Prabha monthly magazine.After the ritual, arrangements were made for the devotees to have darshan of Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi through a special queue. Anna Prasadam was also served to all the devotees at the temple’s Annapurna Bhavan.Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivasa Rao said observing the Varalakshmi Vratam during Sravana was a long-standing practice in the Vedic tradition. The month of Sravana was considered particularly auspicious and pleasing to all deities, he said.Referring to the participation of the Chenchu devotees, he said Srisailam held a special place in the culture and traditions of the Chenchu tribe. The Chenchus regarded Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy as their son-in-law and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi as their daughter, he said.Meanwhile, Go Puja was conducted on the auspicious occasion of Krishnashtami at Sri Gokulam, located within the temple premises. The worship and associated rituals were performed in accordance with scriptural traditions, with the cows and calves at Sri Gokulam being worshipped first.
