Spain registered its joint-highest temperature for September on record on Thursday September 3rd with 45.7C measured in a southwestern town as exceptional heat hits the country, weather agency Aemet reported on Friday.
Thursday's reading in the municipality of El Granado equalled the 45.7C recorded in Montoro in 2016, also located in the southern region of Andalusia, Aemet said on social media.
It was also the highest temperature registered in Spain this year in a week where summer-like heat topping 40C has baked swathes of the south and west of the country.
