Police have been given 40 possible names for a woman in her 70s whose body was found in a black bin bag in a park after she was allegedly murdered.

Last week, a manhunt had been launched to find the victim's killer after a member of the public discovered her remains in a walled garden in Stanley Park, Anfield, Liverpool, at around 5.25pm on Friday, August 28.

It is believed the pensioner's body had been left in the bin bag for weeks, according to Merseyside Police.

The woman has been described as white, believed to be around 70 years old, approximately 5ft 2in tall and of slight build, with strawberry blonde hair, and she was wearing a pink Nike T-shirt.

The force said that over the past week it has been given more than 40 potential names for the woman – and 120 witnesses have come forward with information about the case.
