Several of football’s biggest stars have come close to joining Major League Soccer, only for proposed blockbuster moves to fall through.
As reported by the Economic Times on Friday, among them are Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Neymar, all of whom were linked with moves to the United States at different stages of their careers.
In 2022, Ronaldo was approaching the end of his four-year spell at Juventus and, at 37, was considering his next move.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner attracted interest from Saudi Arabia and, according to reports at the time, Manchester City.
MLS clubs also explored the possibility of signing the Portugal legend. LA Galaxy and Inter Miami were among those linked with Ronaldo, while Sporting Kansas City emerged as one of the most serious contenders.
