When it comes to fragrance, we want to feel unique, special, to have a signature scent that makes past lovers ache for you when they catch a trail of it. The perfumes I’ve listed below are very much in this category. All of them, perhaps with the exception of the Diptyque, come from boutique, small distribution brands that you’ve probably never heard of. Many of them cycle in and out of stock or have waiting lists - making them hard to get hold of. And crucially, all of them smell divine - sophisticated and sexy. They mix quality ingredients with passion and alchemy to create something that seduces both you and everyone else around you. One of the niche fragrances that has made it into my personal collectionAs a beauty editor, I’m inundated with fragrances, and these are ones that have made it into my personal collection, get me stopped in the street and entice friends, families and lovers to lean in for a hug. Do they make my exes’s hearts ache? I don’t know, but I certainly hope so. Fine Scents Eminence I’ve had a beautiful bottle of this on my desk for a few months and its incredible fragrance grows on me exponentially. Created by the esteemed perfumer Céline Ellena, it’s salty, woody and seductive – a spellbinding mix of marine, cedar and patchouli notes that gives chic Parisian vibes. £180 Shop Essential Parfums The Musc This brand gives famous perfumers free rein to create fragrances for them and the result is scent heaven. I adore all their offerings, but this fragrance is a truly compellingly mix of sweet (honey) and woody (sandalwood). £86 Shop La Pyae Catch Me If I Fall Created by beauty journalist Kathleen Baird-Murray and master perfumer Frank Voelkl, this bergamot zest, jasmine sambac, iris and white musk blend begs those around you to come closer and inhale the magnificently soft, subtle and sexy scent. £185 Shop Diptyque Orphéon Eau De Toilette I smelt this first on a very chic friend and asked, yay demanded, to know what it was. This green mandarin, juniper berry, cedar combination is bewitchingly cool and is frequently stolen by both my boyfriend and daughter which speaks to its universal appeal. £145 Shop Olfactive O New Earth Colleagues queue up at my desk for a spritz of this in the morning. Its pleasingly weighty bottle contains a ‘juice’ of pink peppercorn, geranium leaf, hay and oakmoss that has both freshness and depth. Spritz and wait for the compliments. £65 Shop Ffern Autumn 26 I am obsessed, obsessed, with Ffern scents. They are truly unique. Maybe it’s the unusual combinations, maybe it’s the quality of the ingredients. Whatever it is, its olfactive magic. Autumn 26 is yet to be released but I know the iris, tonka, hay, violet leaf, lavender heather combination will be spellbinding because every other fragrance they’ve created has been. Good luck securing yours. £89 Shop Uni Rain Water Based Perfume This had me at first sniff. Well, more correctly their Sunset fragrance did, but that one is so wildly popular it’s never in stock, so I turned to this. Why is it so special? It’s a fresh/sweet combo, created from notes of grapefruit, pollen, mimosa, peony, lilac, oakmoss, vetiver and patchouli, and is like nothing I’ve never smelt before. Warning – it doesn’t last, so reapplication is essential. From £28 Shop
