Volkswagen's supervisory board did not just nod along to another leaked memo this time. In early 2026 it unanimously approved the comprehensive Future Plan 2030, and on September 3, 2026 it backed a detailed restructuring package that turns earlier targets into specific capacity and cost cuts.
The new package puts roughly 50,000 job reductions on top of cuts already underway, aims to streamline the group's model lineup by up to half by 2035, and puts four German plants under review. CEO Oliver Blume called the broader Future Plan "a strong signal for the future of the Volkswagen Group."
