In a major setback for Tata Chemicals Ltd, the Government of Kenya has ordered the closure of Tata Chemicals Magadi Ltd, a subsidiary of the company manufacturing soda ash, for alleged non-contribution to the local economy. Reportedly, Kenya’s ‌President William Ruto ​, who had ‌ordered ‌the company to stop operations ​in ‌Kenya, said two ⁠new companies ‌would be roped in to take over operations for ‌the Tata Chemicals unit. Acknowledging the development Tata Chemicals said it had received the official communication from the Ministry of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs (Ministry) dated July 28, 2026.
