The European Investment Bank’s investment strategy aims to transform northern Greece from a region that attracts capital into one that generates investment.
It views Thessaloniki as a gateway to the Balkans and Central Europe, Western Macedonia, with a new productive model and energy infrastructure at the forefront.
The EIB Group is also putting affordable and sustainable housing high on its agenda, targeting around €6 billion in investment across Europe, while placing particular emphasis on accelerating project implementation.
“The problem is not so much financing as the speed of moving from an investment idea to implementation,” EIB vice president Yannis Tsakiris told AMNA news outlet, describing one of the main challenges for the period ahead.
His message is clear: Capital is available, but it needs to be quickly translated into mature projects, productive investment, infrastructure and jobs.
