All Blacks put on their running shoes ... but will Springboks give them any ball to play with?

The All Blacks will be hoping hooker Asafo Aumua can get his running and offloading game going against the Springboks.

Dave Rennie’s selection for Saturday’s third Test in Soweto makes one thing abundantly clear: the All Blacks are doubling down on a high-tempo, expansive running game to try to beat the Springboks at FNB Stadium.

By promoting dynamic loose-forward Peter Lakai and explosive hooker Asafo Aumua into the starting XV, New Zealand have opted for more dynamism and mobility in their forward pack.

The inclusion of Aumua in place of veteran Codie Taylor is a telling statement. While Taylor offers traditional set-piece stability, Aumua brings a rare, devastating ball-carrying threat in open space.

Taylor, who had a bit of a niggle ahead of the first Test, may also be somewhat bruised and battered after the first two Tests, with Aumua set to bring bags of energy to the All Blacks’ effort.
