Argentine President Javier Milei issued a harsh call on foreign companies operating in the Malvinas Islands and surrounding areas to halt their efforts, saying that his government will issue a decree looking to toughen sanctions on these firms and will also send a bill to Congress with the goal of “protecting national sovereignty.”
The bill, Milei added, will also look to create a national security council in order to lay out a “coordinated strategy intended to defend sovereignty and regain the Malvinas.”
This will also include the installation of a naval base in Tierra del Fuego province, a move he said will allow Argentina to “strengthen its geopolitical presence in a strategic region for the country’s future.”
“Any additional advancement in Malvinas will be considered a violation of national security,” Milei stated.
