Fox News is parting ways with anchor Maria Bartiromo over a decade after she joined the network from CNBC, the company announced Thursday. “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter,” the company said in a statement, without clarifying why Bartiromo is departing. The veteran journalist, known for amplifying President Donald Trump’s baseless election fraud conspiracy theories during her many friendly interviews with him, hosted “Mornings with Maria” on the Fox Business Network, which aired Thursday morning ahead of the company’s announcement about her departure. The show will be retitled “Morning with Fox Business.”“Sunday Morning Futures,” also hosted by Bartiromo, will be led by Jason Chaffetz on Sunday, with a new host to be announced at a later date. She hosted a number of network programs, including “Closing Bell” and “On the Money with Maria Bartiromo.”After joining Fox News in 2014, Bartiromo continued to host a daily show covering the economy and public policy, and to appear on the network’s daily news shows.Her ratings soared when she began to delve into politics by interviewing Trump ahead of the 2016 presidential election, and she maintained a close relationship with him during future presidential elections. Trump even reportedly considered her to be his potential running mate in the 2024 race.The Fox host’s interviews with Trump, in which she rarely pushed back against his false claims and tossed him softball questions, were heavily scrutinized by the public.At one point, then-Fox Business president Brian Jones hit back against critics of Bartiromo in 2018 after a particularly easy interview with Trump, saying at the time that the “wide-ranging interview” had “made news on multiple fronts and elicited answers to numerous questions.” He added that the network was “proud of her hard work and continued success.”Bartiromo once again came under fire in 2020 after Trump gave her his first interview after losing to former President Joe Biden in 2020, during which he claimed the election was “rigged” and “a fraud.” Throughout the 45-minute interview, Bartiromo asked few questions and didn’t push the president for evidence surrounding his baseless claims. At moments, she even backed him up.“This is disgusting!” she said about supposed election fraud during the sit-down. “And we cannot allow America’s election to be corrupted. We cannot.”Trump hailed her as “brave.”Bartiromo’s unexpected departure from Fox sparked rumors that she may be the new White House press secretary, replacing Karoline Leavitt. Asked about Bartiromo possibly taking on the role, Vice President JD Vance said, “I don’t know, man. No, I don’t think so.”“I just saw the news,” he continued. “I love Maria. I think she’s an amazing person, amazing talent. I don’t get involved in the personal drama of media stations.” He added, “Whatever she does, she’s going to do great, and I wish her all the best. She’s a very, very dear friend.”
