Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been fully acquitted in his trial over the alleged sharing of intimate footage involving a minor.It was confirmed in July that the 23-year-old would stand trial over the alleged incident, despite both victims withdrawing their complaints against him.Asencio was cleared on Thursday of distributing the video without consent and sharing a sex tape involving a minor, after the Spanish Public Prosecutor’s Office withdrew all charges against him.He was tried alongside three of his former Madrid youth-team team-mates. Ferran Ruiz, Juan Rodriguez and Andres Garcia. They were found guilty of recording and distributing videos of sexual content of a minor, aged 16, and the same offences against an 18-year-old woman. As with Asencio, both victims had withdrawn their complaints against each of them, but the trial judge determined they were guilty based on the prosecutor’s submissions to the court.They have each been sentenced to one year in prison, suspended on the condition that they do not reoffend during that period, as well as a two-year restraining order preventing them from approaching the victims and a three-year ban on working in professions involving minors.The sentences was handed down after the judge heard the victims say that they forgave the defendants.The case centred on the filming of a sexual encounter in the private area of a beach club in the Canary Islands in June 2023, as well as the alleged distribution of the video, without the victims’ consent.Asencio was never accused of having been involved in the incident or the filming of it, but it was alleged that he asked for the videos and showed them to another friend.Asencio was charged with disclosure and transfer to third parties of images captured without consent under Article 197 of the Spanish Criminal Code, which covers privacy-related offences.
