Health Minister K. Muraleedharan will open the new building for the School of Family Health Studies under the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) on September 5. It is located on the campus of the Government Medical College, Kozhikode.A release said on Thursday (September 3) that the new facility constructed on 50 cents comprises a cellar, ground floor, and first floor. It aims to promote the health of society by ensuring the health and well-being of families. The school seeks to provide the necessary academic and research support to protect the health of vulnerable groups, including children, women of reproductive age, and the elderly.Research in family health, training programmes for human resource development, creating awareness about family-centred healthcare, providing academic support for government programmes, and policy formulation related to family health are among its major activities.The school has been conducting training programmes in areas such as neurodevelopmental disorders in children, inherited diseases, childhood visual problems, suicide prevention, non-communicable diseases, digital violence against women, mental health in disaster situations, and palliative care.The new building is expected to help expand educational, research and training activities in the field of family health, university authorities said.Kozhikode North MLA Advocate K. Jayanth, KUHS Vice-Chancellor Mohanan Kunnummal, pro-Vice-Chancellor C. P. Vijayan, Kozhikode MP M. K. Raghavan and Kozhikode Mayor O. Sadashivan will be present at the event, the release added.
