An unmanned surface vessel operated by the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the Nefrit multipurpose support vessel, sailing under the Russian flag, while it was in the port of Sochi.

As reported by Ukrinform, the Ukrainian Navy press service said this in a Facebook post.

A powerful explosion occurred near the vessel, and smoke was seen rising from the area.

Nefrit is part of Russia’s maritime and energy infrastructure. It supported oil and gas operations, serviced offshore facilities, transported cargo and personnel, and carried out underwater engineering work. The vessel’s activities directly supported Russia’s war economy and the financing of its criminal aggression against Ukraine.

“Striking Nefrit is a blow to the enemy’s logistics, specialized capabilities and military-economic infrastructure,” the Ukrainian Navy said.
