The New York Mets are strongly considering giving Jonah Tong, their top pitching prospect, another shot in the major leagues soon after the right-hander showed improvement in recent outings.Tong is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, but people familiar with the situation said he is more likely to start for the Mets early next week in their series against the Miami Marlins. The league sources spoke on the condition of anonymity because the club had not yet firmed up its plans. The Mets are set to visit Miami for a three-game series starting on Monday.Ahead of the Mets’ game Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays, Mets interim manager Andy Green told reporters that Tong was “definitely under discussion” as a near-term possibility. The Mets are off on Thursday. The order of their rotation for their weekend series lines up as Nolan McLean, Zac Thornton and Christian Scott.
