The world is set to breach the critical 1.5°C warming threshold within years, intensifying extreme weather, glacier melting, sea-level rises and ecosystem loss.

Global action to curb greenhouse gas emissions has fallen short, increasing risks to human health, food and water security, cities and infrastructure.

Even under the most optimistic scenario, temperatures would peak at around 1.8°C before potentially falling back below the threshold later this century.

Bringing temperatures back down would require rapid emissions cuts alongside large-scale carbon dioxide removal, including forest restoration and direct carbon-extraction technology.
