Former charity employee Tameem Choudhury has been sentenced for stealing cancer charity funds which used to fund wedding and luxury items.
A former United Kingdom breast cancer organisation employee has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison after fraudulently diverting nearly £92,000 (about R2 million) intended for the charity into his personal bank account.
Tameem Choudhury, 29, appeared before the Royal Courts of Justice in London on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, where he was sentenced after pleading guilty to fraud and money laundering.
The court heard that Choudhury, who previously worked in the finance department at Breast Cancer Now, exploited his position to intercept a refund payment worth about R2. million that was due to the charity and spent the money on debts, luxury purchases, travel and wedding expenses.
According to investigators, the charity was due to receive refund from The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust in 2023.
