AI is creating unrealistic expectations of cosmetic surgery with patients now using the likes of ChatGPT to generate ‘flawless’ images of their face, surgeons warn.
One in seven cosmetic surgeons (15 per cent) has had a patient attend an appointment with an idealised image of themselves that they hope to replicate in real life.
But these AI images are creating ‘distorted’ or ‘unrealistic’ expectations of what can be achieved through surgery, the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) said.
The trend – dubbed ‘AI face’ – features perfect skin, exaggerated symmetry, sculpted cheekbones, altered noses and more defined jawlines, the Association added.
Unlike traditional inspiration images, AI-generated photographs can be particularly powerful because they depict the patient themselves – creating the impression that the digitally altered result is an achievable version of their own face.
