Below are select quotes from the show’s preview of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The quotes are edited for clarity. There’s a very actionable reason why it got better in the second half of the season for the Jaguars: the personnel changes. And when you watch the personnel change and it all starts to fit together, you understand what the offense is supposed to look like.With Jakobi Meyers and Parker Washington in their roles, Brian Thomas Jr. shifted into the role he should actually play. When Meyers and Washington were on the field together last year, the Jags averaged 0.18 EPA per play. That’s the same number as when we were talking about Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins with Joe Burrow. When you put Brenton Strange on the field with those other two guys, it’s 0.33 EPA per dropback. I love the pass-catching personnel combined with the way that they were playing last year, and I am really excited to see if they can build on it.Derrik Klassen on what he’s watching the first month of the season: I’m curious, does this defense have another gear to it? I think to say it was a mirage is a little bit strong, but it’s a little bit like the Chargers situation where you look at the talent on the roster and how good they actually were, they overachieved. I just think sometimes with those cases, and I said this also about Jesse Minter, sometimes you want to see that again. Can they iterate a little bit, because they didn’t really add a whole lot outside of Travis Hunter hopefully coming back and playing cornerback.Derrik Klassen on what’s keeping him up at night: The offensive line and run game needs, like, four dominoes to fall in succession for this thing to work out. They are lipping their tackles. Anton Harrison is going to play left tackle. Cole Van Lanen is going to play right tackle. Van Lanen, who knows what he looks like after the season-ending injury from last year. Emmanuel Pregnon is going to be playing left guard for them. He’s a third-round rookie. He looked good in the one preseason game he played, but it’s one preseason game and he’s a third-round rookie. Like you just don’t know exactly how much better that’s going to be for them. On top of that, how good is Bhayshul Tuten really? How good is Chris Rodriguez really?
