BJP State president Nainar Nagenthran on Wednesday said there was no unity between Tamilaga Vettri Vazhagam (TVK) and Congress, which was part of the coalition government in Tamil Nadu, on the Prime Ministerial candidate for 2029 Parliamentary election.While the State Congress president said their party leader Rahul Gandhi would be the Prime Ministerial candidate, TVK was projecting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, which only showed that there was no unity between the two parties, Mr. Nagenthran said.In a brief interaction with journalists at Samayapuram near Tiruchi, he questioned whether it was absolutely necessary for the State government to spend ₹5 crore for the Chief Minister’s visit to Mettur via Salem to open the dam on Tuesday. Interestingly, only ₹4.8 crore was spent for the construction of the Mettur dam years ago, he said.“We have a costly Chief Minister for whose visit barricades were placed along the route,” he said and questioned whether it was absolutely necessary to spend so much for the visit. The TVK had the Congress in its coalition government with two of its MLAs as Ministers. It was told on numerous occasions to the Chief Minister to speak on the Cauvery issue after Karnataka refused to release Cauvery water. However, the Chief Minister did not speak anything on the issue. Although water had been released from Mettur dam, it would take 12 days to reach the tail-end areas. Already, two lakh hectares had not been cultivated in the delta region. The State government should provide compensation to those farmers, he added. Published - September 02, 2026 07:17 pm IST
