Ukraine has officially notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) that Russian airspace is unsafe for civil aviation due to increased military activity and has urged everyone to avoid it.
According to Ukrinform, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha said this on X.
“We urge everyone to avoid it. … This is our responsible decision to notify ICAO and all airlines, and governments to take caution – even if Russia refuses to fulfill its responsibility to inform them,” the Minister said.
He noted that amid Russia’s sharp escalation of its terror campaign against Ukraine, Russian airspace is becoming increasingly dangerous.
“We want to prevent unintended incidents… The war is returning home to Russia. Ukraine exercises its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter,” the Foreign Minister emphasized.
