The Chennai Customs have arrested a 62-year-old Malaysian passenger for attempting to smuggle 3.4 kg of hydroponic ganja at Chennai airport.On August 31, the passenger from Kuala Lumpur tried to exit the terminal via the green channel without making any declarations. Based on passenger profiling, the customs officials intercepted him and checked his baggage.According to a press release, officials found four transparent airtight packets containing greenish-brown flowering and fruiting tops of a plant concealed at the false bottom of the baggage. They suspected it to be high-grade hydroponically cultivated cannabis and sent it for testing. The recovered contraband weighed 3,452 g (net weight) and tested positive for ganja/marijuana when tested using the Narcotic Drug Detection Kit, the release said.The contraband was seized under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the passenger was arrested.
