Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy on Wednesday (September 2) held public grievance meetings in Chikkyamagere, Kallur, Sanganal and Rajur villages of Yelburga Assembly constituency and interacted with residents, who shared their issues.Speaking at the programmes organised by the Koppal district administration and the Yelburga and Kukanoor taluk panchayats, Mr. Rayaraddi said the welfare of people and the overall development of Yelburga constituency were his priorities.He said a project for filling 24 lakes in the constituency had earlier been completed and that the tender process is completed for a ₹970-crore project to fill 34 more lakes in the Yelburga-Kukanoor region with water from the Krishna river. The works would begin shortly, he said.A ₹125-crore drinking water project had also been planned to provide potable water to about 23 villages in the constituency. The process of supplying water from the Tungabhadra river through DBOT (Design, Build, Operate and Transfer) had been initiated, he said.Mr. Rayaraddi said priority was being given to improving roads in the constituency. Asphalt-laying and repair works on the Mundargi-Rajur-Yelburga road links would gain momentum from October. An allocation of ₹400 crore had been made for the Sankanur-Mudhol-Yelburga road, he said.He said the ‘Deepika’ scheme had been introduced to encourage girl students who had studied from class 1 to second PU in government schools and colleges to pursue higher education. Under the scheme, female students pursuing BA, BCom, BSc, engineering and MBBS courses would receive an annual incentive of ₹30,000. He urged girls from rural areas to make use of the scheme.More than 13 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) had been sanctioned for Yelburga taluk, with each school being constructed at a cost of ₹4 crore, he said. Approval had also been given for a residential BCA, BCom and BSc degree college at Bevoor at a cost of ₹24 crore, along with hostels with a capacity of 180 students each for boys and girls, he added.Drought issueReferring to the drought situation, the Minister said Gangavathi, Kukanoor and Kanakagiri taluks had already been declared drought-hit. He said Yelburga taluk would be included in the second list expected by the end of September and that necessary assistance would be provided to farmers and residents.He promised residents of Kallur that a new community hall would be constructed at a cost of ₹50 lakh and a bus stand at ₹60 lakh. Development works for temples and a dargah would also be taken up in phases, he said.During the public interaction programme at Rajur, the Minister inaugurated the construction and furnishing works of the Rajur-Adur pre-university college building. He also inaugurated two classrooms each at Rajur Government Higher Primary School and Dyampur Government Higher Primary School.Mr. Rayaraddi later held a public grievance meeting at Sanganal and received petitions from residents.Yelburga Taluk Guarantee Schemes Implementation Committee chairman Sudhir Korallalli, Yelburga Taluk Panchayat executive officer Neelaganga Babalad, Kukanoor Taluk Panchayat EO Betadesha Malekoppa, KRIDL official Anil Patil, PWD official Mallikarjun, and local leaders K.M.
