Admitting of error in marking 63-year-old Mangaluru city resident as dead and removing him from the draft electoral roll, the Dakshina Kannada district administration stated that steps have been taken to include his name in the final electoral roll.In a statement on September 1, Tuesday, Additional District Electoral Registration Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner K. Raju, said, on August 29 the Booth Level Officer noticed that 63-year-old Donald Joseph Rego, a resident of Bejai New Road in Mangaluru city, has been erroneously included in the list of dead and his name has got deleted from the draft roll. The same day, the BLO and the jurisdictional Electoral Registration Officer personally contacted Mr. Rego and Form 6 was submitted, along with necessary documents, through the BLO App. “Steps have been to include the name of Mr. Rego in the final SIR electoral roll,” Mr. Raju stated.Talking to reporters in front of election office in the Mangaluru City Corporation building on Wednesday, Mr. Rego said he has been residing in Bejai New Road for a long time. He had voted in the 2024 parliament elections. He duly filled the enumeration form and handed it to the BLO. When he checked the draft roll on August 26, he did not find his name in it. “I was shocked to find my name as deceased in the ASDD (Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate) list,” he said.Soon after, Mr. Rego said he visited the election office. “This is my fourth visit to the office today. Form 6 (for inclusion of name in the final SIR electoral roll) has been filed. Today they have taken declaration,” Mr. Rego said.Mr. Raju, in the statement, said Mr. Rego only gave his details in the Enumeration Form and failed to give details either of his or that of the progeny in the 2002 electoral rolls. Mr. Rego only attached copy of the death certificate of his father. The BLO accepted Mr. Rego’s enumeration form and marked it as “No Mapping case”. At the time of digitalisation, Mr. Rego was erroneously mentioned as dead by looking at the death certificate copy of Mr. Rego’s father and his name was dropped from the draft roll published on August 24. The Electoral Registration Officer of Mangaluru City South Assembly constituency has received explanation from BLO on the erroneous deletion. The District Electoral Officer has served a notice to the BLO on the issue, Mr. Raju said. Published - September 02, 2026 07:01 pm IST
