EuroHPC JU puts out six calls to advance quantum technologies across the continent

The European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has put out six calls across a range of quantum computing technologies.

The projects aim to accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation quantum computers and will have a total funding budget of €119 million ($138m).

The six projects will individually focus on trapped-ion, superconducting, and neutral-atom quantum computing, alongside next-generation Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technologies, quantum testing infrastructure, and quantum experimental pilot lines.

Dubbed HORIZON-JU-EUROHPC-2026-TIPT-09, the trapped-ion project will target the development of a full-stack, trapped-ion quantum computer with more than 1,000 individually addressable physical qubits. Once complete, the system will be fully integrated with classical high-performance computing systems and accessible via cloud platforms.
