Africa’s largest supermarket group has acquired a coffee chain with more than 400 outlets and completed its purchase of a controlling interest in a payments company serving South Africa’s informal retail market.
Shoprite bought Vida e Caffè and completed its majority investment in R&A Cellular as it expands beyond conventional grocery sales.
Reuters reported that the two acquisitions were worth approximately $62 million (R1 billion) combined.
Shoprite has not publicly separated the price paid for each company. The combined figure should therefore remain attributed to Reuters.
