Channel 5 drama The Game returned to screens this month as viewers saw a huge twist in the first episode.13:59, 02 Sep 2026Actors Jason Watkins and Robson Green were back in action once again.‌Channel 5 viewers saw the duo reprise their roles as Huw Miller and Patrick Harbottle in the chilling cat and mouse thriller, The Game. The second series kicked off this week, as it followed on a year later from the harrowing events in series one.‌With Patrick now behind bars after it was revealed that he was the serial killer, The Ripton Stalker, from all those years ago, Huw is trying to move on with his life. However, things took a drastic turn in the first episode as Huw's life was turned upside down once again, reports Wales Online.‌As Patrick continues to send letters to Huw, requesting he visit him in prison, it's clear there are people helping him from behind bars on the outside. While Huw's daughter faces a series of unsettling incidents, his wife Alice (Sunetra Sarker) remains convinced Patrick's reach could still pose a danger.During the episode, Alice is on the phone with Huw as a car speeds up behind her. In another scene, it shows him on the floor with her in tears as she's been struck down. It's later revealed that she hasn't survived the incident, with officers telling Huw that although it may have been an accident, they're looking into all possibilities.‌Following the unexpected death, people were quick to comment on the incident, with many sad to see Alice's demise. One person said: "I can't believe Huw's wife is dead #thegame."Another replied with: "That was a shocking development." Someone else commented: "Well, I didn't see that coming! Now I want to know who did Alice meet on the beach??" One person added: "Omg Alice. Patrick seriously wants attention and revenge."Although people are going to have to wait a while longer to find out who was driving the car that killed Alice. Elsewhere in the episode, Huw received a letter from Patrick in prison, sending his condolences over his loss.‌The four-part series has already got viewers gripped, with plenty sharing their theories about who might be assisting Patrick from beyond the prison walls. While some reckon it could be Huw's daughter's boyfriend, others are convinced it's a police officer who's been in touch with him.A synopsis for the upcoming episode reads: "Patrick intensifies his psychological assault on Huw and Margot when Jackie breaks into Margot's flat, scratches out pictures of Sam, and steals Margot's diary. Armed with Margot's most private thoughts, Patrick weaponises her fears.‌"When Margot learns that Huw has secretly visited Patrick in prison again, she explodes - convinced Huw is feeding Patrick's power and even arranging for someone to stalk her."Speaking to Radio Times, actor Robson Green confessed the programme wasn't going to get a second series after the huge cliffhanger it ended on in series one. Last year, viewers saw his character taken away in handcuffs after stabbing Huw, with people not knowing if he lived through the ordeal.Article continues belowMeanwhile, Jason commented: "I think for Huw, there's sort of unfinished business with what happened previously, in that he let Patrick go, and was seen to be making a mistake, albeit at the end of the series, he puts him in prison. I think that's something that irks him."I mean, even that he hadn't solved it sooner, you know, and that his reputation as a person, and I would say, as a man as opposed to an adult, there's a little bit of that going on, and he finds that hard to reconcile."The Game is available to watch on Channel 5
