A couple who are self-proclaimed Lord of the Rings fanatics have spent £500,000 building their own Hobbit holiday homes. Phil and Sam Kilv spent seven years constructing the Middle-earth-inspired properties near the Cambrian Mountains in west Wales.Offering one and two-bedroom themed cottages with log burners, four-poster beds and even flat-screen TVs, it promises a 'magical, memorable retreat' against the scenic backdrop of private woodland and the Cambrian Mountains.Phil, 60, and Sam, 53, who are lifelong fans of the 1954 fantasy novel, later adapted into an acclaimed film trilogy, are now seeking to create the mystical magic for other holidaymakers. 'Sam and I have always had a passion for Tolkien and read all the Lord of the Rings books to our children growing up,' Phil said. 'It's been a dream come true to actually build our own Hobbit homes and bringing the fantasy on the pages to life.'The Kilvs also have a pirate-themed inn featuring real sand and treasures, alongside handmade skulls designed to represent Davy Jones' locker.Now, they are hiring their Bilbo Baggins-style homes out from £180-per-night in the hopes of offering guests a fantasy experience like no other.
