Sainna Buba, the Borno State Commissioner for Poverty Alleviation, Youth and Sports Development, who threatened to “flog and break fingers of opposition members who refuse to support the All Progressives Congress (APC), has finally retracted the comments and tendered an apology to the entire residents of Borno and beyond.

Business Day had earlier reported that Sainna issued a provocative threat to the opposition over the weekend during a Tinubu re-election campaign by City Boy Movement in a now-circulating video, saying, “We are now playing politics. Whoever shows us a finger, we will show him a finger. Whoever dares to show us a finger again, we will break his finger.

He further boasted that, “The government is our government. Those who follow us enjoy the honey; if you refuse, then you will be flogged. The government is our government,”

Saina, who is seen as one of the top members of Governor Zulum’s kitchen cabinet, made a U-turn and retracted his comment made during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

He noted that the remark was never intended to harm or violate the fundamental rights of the people to freedom of choice and association.
