Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath Gupta has said that the State government is determined to make Kurnool a clean, green and modern city.Mr. Bharath, along with Swachh Andhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram and others, launched electric vehicles for collecting garbage from households in the city on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). Speaking after flagging off the vehicles at Konda Reddy Buruju, Mr. Bharath said 91 electric garbage collection vehicles had been sanctioned for the Kurnool Municipal Corporation (KMC).The first batch of 30 vehicles was launched on Wednesday. He said the vehicles, which were previously used for garbage collection, had faced operational problems and required proper maintenance.“The old vehicles have been replaced with new electric vehicles following directives from Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The introduction of these vehicles will enable faster garbage collection and transportation, in addition to environmental conservation,” he said. He added that door-to-door collection of garbage was already under way in the city.Mr. Bharath said the government was introducing a modern garbage collection system across all municipal corporations in the State. “A 15-megawatt waste-to-energy plant will also be established within the Kurnool Municipal Corporation limits,” he said.Stating that the government was prioritising the development of Kurnool, he said approximately ₹140 crore had been allocated for the development of the corporation, and an additional ₹100 crore sanctioned for works including parks, roads and drainage systems.Mr. Bharath said the government would develop the city’s main roads and address traffic problems. “We are continuously working towards the development of Kurnool city, despite financial constraints,” he said.District Collector A.
